Financial Analyst

Inspired Evolution was established in 2007 as a specialised investment advisory business dedicated to

two principal investment themes: clean energy infrastructure-type development and project finance

investments; and energy and resource efficiency growth investments – and the value chains that

support them. Inspired Evolution’s investment territory comprises sub-Saharan Africa. Inspired

Evolution has its head office in Cape Town, supported by regional and country offices in London,

Nairobi, Mauritius and Abidjan. Inspired Evolution manages Evolution I and II funds with over $300

million of committed capital.

What’s the role?

As a team we’re responsible for the investment advice to our Evolution funds. In carrying out these

financial services duties we’re involved with the identification, collection and aggregation of market

and sector data in our sub-Saharan African target region to evaluate investment opportunities across

clean energy and resource efficiency technologies and business models. This includes a detailed

knowledge of related market and financial dynamics and activities, and regulatory and economic

drivers across all related sectors and industry focus areas such as wind, solar, bioenergy, geothermal,

cogeneration and resource efficiency within the energy, agribusiness, water and waste sectors. You

will be responsible for using your analytical and technical skillset to drive high quality, timely and

comprehensive research, datasets and financial models and valuations, that provide the team with

reliable information on which to base its investment advice.

Prioritisation will be on financial modelling and valuation skills in energy infrastructure project finance

as well as for growth equity or expansion capital companies. Other core responsibilities will entail deal

origination, market research and report writing.

You’ll be exposed to existing and new technologies within the renewable energy sectors as well as

adjacent resource efficiency sectors. You will gain a solid grasp of the project and financing level data

of renewable energy projects and growth equity companies to gain both an in-depth and high-level

overview of a specific sector and the technologies deployed therein. As your experience grows, you

will be expected to have greater influence on Inspired Evolution’s investment advisory leadership and

coverage in the clean energy market, through rigorous technical financial analysis and market

expertise or leadership.

As designated Financial Analyst you will work with the Company’s project finance and growth equity

transaction team including the Investment Principals and Managing Partners, other senior analysts

and administrative support staff, with support from expert professional advisors. You will be

responsible for market research and analysis, origination of fund-fit deals, financial modelling, analysis

and investment and fund valuations, including assisting with the negotiation, execution, monitoring

and value creation, and exit. Report writing and drafting of deal papers and investment

memorandums is also a core responsibility.

We will trust you to:

  • Maintain and deliver reliable information to the Inspired Evolution team with the ongoing goal of improving the accuracy, completeness and coverage of our financial analysis and sector datasets
  • Deliver accurate, high quality analysis on prospective and post-investment financial models whilst applying your problem-solving skills to identify innovative financing solutions

  • Develop research ideas, prototypes and proofs of concepts both in cooperation with other data analysts/deal team members and as an individual
  • Liaise with the Inspired Evolution’s investment team to contribute to the future development and strategic direction of the company
  • Continually expand upon your existing technical knowledge in addition to new technologies and tools through our training programs and available resources
  • Take ownership and be proactive with key areas of responsibility

We need you to have:

  •  A university degree or formal certification (preferably in financial analysis and valuation modelling in the energy sector or similar relevant disciplines)
  • Work experience of at least 5 years in areas combining at minimum two of the following: financial analysis, financial valuation, data analysis, energy sector and/or project finance modelling and analysis
