Benefits of Becoming a SAVCA Member

Members benefit from the extensive work done by SAVCA in representing both the private equity and venture capital asset classes to policymakers, regulators and legislators. Interaction with authorities includes lobbying activity related to pension fund regulation, Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services (FAIS), BBBEE, taxation legislation and more.

SAVCA members also receive preferential rates for the annual SAVCA conference and various training programmes and workshops that take place during the course of the year. In addition, SAVCA members receive invitations to attend member networking and information events in Johannesburg and Cape Town, and have the opportunity to participate in world-class research. This includes our annual SAVCA Private Equity Industry Survey, which tracks the activity and trends of private equity within Southern Africa.

Members are kept abreast of industry news and updates through SAVCA’s monthly electronic newsletter.

Membership Types

SAVCA is a non-profit Section 21 Company that represents the interests of the participants of the private equity and venture capital industry in Southern Africa. Full membership of SAVCA provides a high level of endorsement from the industry and denotes a high level of professionalism and integrity for the member firm.

All applicants for Full Membership must meet the criteria as laid out in terms of the Association’s Charter.

All applicants must:

  • Be actively involved in venture capital, private equity investments or mezzanine finance;
  • Be of good standing in the industry;
  • Have, as its principal business, the provision of equity finance to unquoted companies and make its returns mainly through medium to long term capital gain. These activities may include start-up and other early stage, expansion, management buy-out or management buy-in investment which includes ‘equity-type’ return;
  • Have experienced executives engaged full-time in venture capital and private equity investment; and
  • Have venture capital and private equity funds under management having made at least one investment in Southern Africa and be actively making investments.

Associate membership to SAVCA is open to persons and companies representing a special interest group that can influence the development of venture capital and private equity in Southern Africa.
