Dr Anthony Costa
Dr Anthony Costa is the Investment Programme Lead for the President of South Africa’s Investment Mobilisation Programme, based at the Industrial Development Corporation (on secondment from Nedbank). He has served in various roles in Nedbank and the broader Old Mutual Group for over 15 years, including most recently managing the relationship between Old Mutual plc and its subsidiaries in South Africa. Anthony holds BA(Hons) and LLB degrees from Wits, an MBA from GIBS, and a PhD in History from Trinity College, Cambridge. He is an admitted advocate and former member of the Johannesburg Bar.
Founder and Chief Executive Officer
Bame Pule
Bame Pule is the Founder and CEO of Africa Lighthouse Capital. Founded in 2012, Africa Lighthouse Capital manages a sector-agnostic private equity fund in Botswana whose capital has been raised wholly from local institutional investors. The firm invests in Botswana and throughout Sub Saharan Africa. Africa Lighthouse Capital is comfortable taking either majority or minority equity stakes, and it invests anywhere from growth capital in growing and profitable companies to buyouts of mature companies.
Bame has a private equity track record dating back to 2002 and an investment track record dating back to 1998. Prior to founding Africa Lighthouse Capital, Bame spent over six years working in the private equity team at Actis in South Africa, Nigeria, and Egypt. His investments included deals in industrials and logistics. Before that, Bame began his private equity career at ShoreView Capital in the United States, where his investments were largely in industrials. Prior to that Bame worked at Goldman Sachs in New York, where his clients were largely in financial services and his deals ranged from mergers and acquisitions, to listings, to debt capital raisings. Bame began his investment career at Citigroup in Los Angeles creating public equity portfolios, and he also worked at Credit Suisse in New York making infrastructure investments.
Bame has Bachelor’s degrees in Economics and Political Science (double major) from Pomona College in Claremont, California and an MBA degree from Harvard Business School in Boston, Massachusetts.

Chad Potter
Chad is a principal on the BBGF funds and is instrumental in the investment programme for both fund and co-investments. He is the primary lead on the Jobs Fund partnership, and leads the co-investment activities of the funds. Chad has extensive transaction experience, and prior to joining 27four, Chad was an Associate Director in Corporate Finance at Deloitte in London and SA. He has advised clients on deals in more than 20 countries across multiple sectors. He has also worked on cross-border transactions across many sectors including manufacturing, infrastructure, oil and gas, mining, power, construction, tech, consumer business, real estate, financial services, healthcare and agri-business. His experience includes both corporate and PE transactions, as well as capital markets, buy and sell side due diligence and post-merger integration.

Treasurer of the City of Philadelphia and Trustee for Philadelphia Gas Works
Christian Dunbar
Christian Dunbar, City Treasurer, was appointed in July 2019 by Mayor James F. Kenney as Treasurer to the City of Philadelphia after serving four years as Deputy City Treasurer. As City Treasurer, Mr. Dunbar oversees the $3.1 billion portfolio of cash and investments, custodial and commercial banking relationships for all City funds. In addition, he manages the City’s $9.0 billion debt portfolio and oversees all notes and bonds on behalf of the City’s General Fund and Enterprise Funds (Airport, Gas, Water and Wastewater) to finance capital projects and equipment acquisitions in adherence to the City’s debt management policy.
Mr. Dunbar also currently serves as a Mayoral appointee and Chairman of the Philadelphia Land Bank Board of Directors and as an advisor to the United States Agency for International Development World Bank Group for the advancement of capital market developments, structured product development, and governance in emerging markets.
As a speaker, Mr. Dunbar has presented at conferences in the US, Canada, Africa, and Europe on topics including capital market development, emerging market risk, and Environmental Social & Governance impact (ESG).
Prior to joining the City, Mr. Dunbar was a wealth manager with Wells Fargo Advisors where he managed investments and credit products for high-net worth individuals, institutions, and public entities. He holds a BA from Temple University. Mr. Dunbar is of Liberian descent is a descendant of American abolitionist and humanitarian, Harriet Tubman.

Cora Fernandez
Fernandez entered the private equity industry in 2001 when she joined Ethos Private Equity. She joined Sanlam in 2006 as Deputy CEO of Private Equity and was subsequently appointed as CEO of Sanlam Private Equity. She served on the board of the board of SAVCA for two years and subsequently served as the chairperson of SAVCA. In 2006, Fernandez was awarded the top private equity deal maker in 2008 and in 2009 she was awarded Sanlam CEO’s award for her deal making capabilities.
In 2012 Cora was appointed the managing director of Sanlam Investment Management (SIM), one of the largest asset management firms in the country. She subsequently became the Chief Executive of Sanlam Investments Institutional Business; which business was responsible for managing Sanlam’s Institutional Clients such as Pension Funds, Retirement Funds, Provident Funds, Endowments and Unions.
During her tenure in private equity, she served numerous boards, board subcommittees, advisory boards and investment committees. She currently serves on the Board of Sphere Holdings and chairs the Remuneration Committee of Sphere. She also serves on the Board of Tiger Brands Limited, Tiger Brands Audit Committee and Chairs the Tiger Brands Risk and Sustainability Committee. She serves on the Board of Spur Corporation and its Audit and Risk Committees, respectively. She is a member of the Investment Committee of 27Four’s Black Business Growth Fund. She is also member of the Investment Committee of the National Empowerment Fund and she serves as an independent Trustee on the Allan Gray Pension, Provident, Retirement Annuity – and Umbrella Funds.

Craig Dreyer
Craig joined Ethos in 1998 as the Company’s Chief Financial Officer. He has served as a committee member of South African Venture Capital and Private Equity Association since 1998. Craig holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree in accounting and a post graduate Bachelor of Accounting degree from the University of Witwatersrand.
He is a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants. Craig represented South Africa at the Fireball World Sailing Championships in San Francisco in 1984. Craig is a keen photographer and tries to ride a mountain bike. Craig is married to Linda and has two daughters.

He serves as Chairman of the Reach Trust, a non-profit developing mobile apps used by millions of South Africans to improve their literacy, numeracy, and employability. He also serves as a voting member of the academy of the Global Teacher Prize.

Edward Pitsi
Edward is the Managing Partner of the Ethos Mid Market Fund programme, he is also a member of Ethos’ Executive Committee.
Since November 2016 he has led the mid-market investments into Autozone, Kevro and Gammatek. Edward now also represents Ethos on the Echotel and Synerlytic Group Holdings Board.
Ed joined Ethos as an Associate in 2011, within our large buyouts team. During this time he has been involved in the evaluation of numerous acquisition opportunities and the successful delisting and ultimate exit of Universal Industries, the acquisition of Autozone and Little Green Beverages (part of The Beverage Company). He also served on the boards of House of Busby and Atio (prior to the exit of this investment by the Ethos Technology Fund).
Prior to Ethos, he worked as a transactor in the Acquisition and Leveraged Finance team at Barclays Africa Group. Before this, he worked at PriceWaterhouseCoopers.

Evelysse Vargas
Evelysse Vargas is a Senior Investment Analyst for the New York City Board of Education Retirement System (NYCBERS). In this capacity, she is responsible for performance assessment, performance monitoring, and performance reporting for BERS’s private markets investments. The New York City Board of Education Retirement System serves non-pedagogical employees for the New York City Department of Education and other closely related governmental organizations. Previously, she worked in BlackRock’s New York City offices as a member of the Financial Institutions Group.
Ms. Vargas graduated from Wesleyan University with a Bachelor of Arts degree and was born and raised in New York City.

Fulu Makwetla
Fulufhelo (Fulu) Makwetla is an investment professional and entrepreneur with a passion for developmental investments, diversity advancement and inclusivity. She is the Founding Partner and Managing Director of Third Way Investment Partners, a Non-executive Director of All Weather Capital, Fundi Capital, and serves on the investment committee of RH Bophelo.
She was previously the Investment Manager of the Government Employees Pension Fund (GEPF) and represented GEPF on several advisory boards of Private Equity Funds on the African continent.
Prior to joining GEPF, she was an Executive and Senior Investment Consultant at RisCura, and an employer elected trustee of the RisCura Provident Fund. She also worked for RMB Asset Management, having started her career at Liberty Life and has over 17 years industry experience.
She is a member the Association of Black Securities and Investment Professionals (ABSIP). In pursuing her passion of diversity advancement and inclusion, especially that of women, she is intentional in her mentorship of young women both through the ABSIP Women in Focus, a sub-committee of ABSIP, as well as in her personal capacity.

Grant Krog
After completing his articles towards his CA (SA) at Deloitte, Grant was appointed as a partner at the firm in 2000. For seven years he led the National Graduate Recruitment programme, which is responsible for the recruitment of approximately 300 accounting graduates per annum from SAICA accredited universities. This was a particularly exciting opportunity given the changes brought by our young democracy and Deloitte’s racial and gender diversity initiatives. Heading the programme provided Grant with much insight into the aspirations and characters of a broad range of graduates, many of whom he mentored.
After 19 years Grant left Deloitte to join 2 former colleagues with entrepreneurial interests. He joined them as an executive director and shareholder at Nimble Group, which is a business process outsourcer and asset manager. His primary role at Nimble was to grow and lead the Corporate Advisory Services business.
After a brief sabbatical, Grant joined FNB in March 2018 as a member of the Mid-Market Advisory team responsible for advisory services to the large commercial clients in FNB.

John Oliphant
John Oliphant is the executive Chairman of Third Way Asset Management (TWAM) an investment holding company.
He is also a director and chairman of Third Way Investment Partners, a R 2.5 billion specialist investment firm focusing on private markets. As part of the TWIG portfolio of companies, John serves as the Chairman of All Weather Capital, a specialist hedge fund manager, and is the founding Chairman of RH Bophelo a listed Healthcare fund with focus on the provision of affordable Healthcare, and a non-executive director of South Point, the largest provider of Student Accommodation in South Africa. He is also the founding Chairman of Boxwood Property Fund, an unlisted real estate fund focusing on the redevelopment of inner cities.

John Seymour
John is currently the Head of Private Equity and Mezzanine Finance at Sanlam Investments. He has over 20 years of investment and financial markets experience and currently oversees Sanlam’s existing investment portfolios and its 3rd party fundraising activities. John commenced his career in finance at Rand Merchant Bank where was most latterly the head of the Principal Investments division, which he co-founded. Before joining Sanlam Investments, John was a Venture Partner for RMI and prior to this he co-founded a private equity backed FMCG buy and build platform. He qualified as a chartered accountant with Deloitte and is currently a mentor for the Endeavor entrepreneur network.

Kgomotso Ramokala
Kgomotso completed his Bcom in Economics and Econometrics at the University of Johannesburg in 2007, in 2008 he commenced his career at Alexander Forbes Financial Services as an Employee Benefits Consultant, his responsibilities in terms of clients included amongst other HP retirement Fund, Tiger Wheel and Tyre Pension Fund, Foskor Provident Fund and Sanofi Aventis Provident Fund.

Monique Mathys

Motlatsi Mutlanyane
Motlatsi Mutlanyane is the Head of Alternative Investments at Momentum Investments. Motlatsi has over 24 years’ experience in the investment management industry in various roles spanning trading, advisory and portfolio management. Nadine Mentor
Ms. Mentor has over 17 years of experience as an investment banker and investor. She is a Partner and Senior Advisor for MiDA Advisors, LLC focusing on Investor Outreach and Transaction Advisory services for investment opportunities in Africa. She is also the Founder and President of Mentor Holdings and Investments, Inc., where she invests in women and minority owned businesses.
Ms. Mentor has transacted over $17 billion of financings throughout her career focused on debt financing for infrastructure, transportation, impact and economic development.
In her career, Ms. Mentor was usually the only female of color working on financing transactions. This experience was a major catalyst for her to begin working in Africa to help facilitate bringing U.S. Investment dollars to the Continent, primarily focused on impact investing.
Ms. Mentor is a cumma sum laude graduate of Pace University in New York with a B.A. in Political Science and minor in Business Administration. Ms. Mentor earned her M.P.A. in Public Policy and Financial Management from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs. Ms. Mentor served as an Economics Teaching Fellow while at Columbia University.

Chief Investment Officer: EPPF
Ndabe Mkhize
Ndabe Mkhize is Chief Investment Officer of the Eskom Pension and Provident Fund (“EPPF” or “the Fund”) where he has oversight over assets worth R145 billion ($10 billion) and manages the 22-member investment management unit of the Fund. The Fund is registered as a defined benefit pension fund with more than eighty thousand (80,000) members.
The Fund invests across the four main geographies, namely South Africa, Africa ex SA, Global Developed Markets, and Global Emerging Markets. It allocates to both public and private markets and invests in various asset classes. The allocation to private markets is close to 15% of the assets of the Fund and spans the gamut of Real Assets, Private Equity, and Development Impact Funds.
Ndabe has been involved in the financial services industry for more than 20 years, starting in the actuarial field with Old Mutual in 1998 and then moved to the asset management industry in 2005 – occupying roles that ranged from Equity Analyst to Portfolio Manager for various asset managers including Coronation Fund Managers, Prudential Investment Managers, and STANLIB Asset Management.
Ndabe was appointed Deputy CIO of the EPPF in May 2014 and stepped up to the Chief Investment Officer role in 2015.
He holds both the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) professional designations and a Bachelor of Science (Actuarial Science) degree from the University of Cape Town. Ndabe has also attended the Investment Management Workshop at the Harvard Business School as well as the EDHEC Risk Institute’s Advances in Asset Allocation.

Nene Molefi

Nene is sought after for inspiring and captivating audiences with his creative storytelling approach in addressing delicate and complex topics of South Africa’s journey to democracy.

Her work has been acknowledged by the Judiciary as having made a noticeable difference in improving relationships and strengthened collegiality in this important arm of the State.
Nene is best known for her critical analysis and her ability to create psychological safety that leads participants to deep introspection build consensus. Nene is able to reduce complex social and organisational issues to their simplest form. She has conducted numerous Executive Team sessions on identifying the imperatives for change and provided them with tools to manage Shareholder Value and Stakeholder expectations without seeing the two as polarities. Nene has been a member of the Diversity Collegium, a think tank of Diversity experts across the globe. It is through the Collegium that she was an Expert Panelist that developed the Global Diversity and Inclusion Benchmark Tool, and now co-author of the 2020 edition. She is also a board member and secretary of The Center for Global Inclusion – an organisation founded in USA with members across the globe. Nene is an esteemed author of a book called A Journey of Diversity and Inclusion in South Africa (Guidelines for Leading Inclusively, published in 2017. Samantha Pokroy
Samantha is the founder and CEO of Sanari Capital, a private equity firm investing in the lower mid-market, with a specialization in founder-run, owner-managed and family-owned businesses. Samantha has fifteen years of private equity and venture capital experience in the South African and United States markets. She played a leading role in investments at Ethos Private Equity, prior to which she worked in private equity in Chicago and investment banking and consulting in New York.

Saray Khumalo is the first black African woman to summit Mt Everest.
She is an award-winning mountaineer and a business executive with over 18 years’ experience in industry leading blue-chip companies driving innovation and change both locally and internationally.
Through mountaineering, she has raised over R1.3million towards literacy and education in African. As a Mandela Libraries ambassador and a social entrepreneur she continues to push boundaries both professionally and in mountaineering.

Shainal Sukha
Shainal Sukha is founder of Sukha and Associates (“S&A”) – a boutique and independent asset consulting firm in South Africa consulting to over R 42 billion of assets. With an Actuarial Science background and over 14 years of investment consulting experience, Shainal has developed a strong track record in delivering top quartile returns for his clients. He is a promoter of “dual consulting”, a good governance initiative, which some SA retirement funds have implemented. He also serves on the Investment Committee of the Actuarial Society of South Africa.

Sizwe Nxasana
Mr. Sizwe Errol Nxasana holds a BCom, BCompt (Hons), CA (SA) qualifications.
He started his career at Unilever. In 1989 he established Sizwe & Co, the first black-owned audit practice in Kwa-Zulu Natal. In 1996 he became the founding partner of Nkonki Sizwe Ntsaluba, now called SizweNtsaluba Gobodo (SNG-Grant Thornton), which is the fifth largest audit firm in South Africa. In 1998 he joined Telkom SA as Chief Executive Officer and was responsible for its listing on the JSE and New York Stock Exchange.
Sizwe was the CEO of FirstRand Banking Group since 2005 until he retired in September 2015. Sizwe serves as Chairman on various Foundations and Trusts. He is the Co-founder and Chairman of the National Education Collaboration Trust. He is Founder and Chairman of Ikusasa Student Financial Aid Programme (ISFAP) which funds and supports students who come from poor and “missing middle” backgrounds.
He is now a social entrepreneur who recently founded Future Nation Schools, which is a chain of affordable private schools in South Africa. He also founded Sifiso Learning Group, which is involved in EdTech, academic publishing and real estate.
Sizwe Nxasana has been conferred with Honorary Doctorates by the Universities of Fort Hare, the Durban University of Technology, the University of Johannesburg and the Walter Sisulu University.

Dr Stuart Theobald
Dr Stuart Theobald is executive chairman of Intellidex, a research and consulting house focused on capital markets and financial services in Africa. He has been researching financial institutions and markets for the last 18 years, working with a range of banks, multilaterals and investors. Stuart holds an MSc and PhD from the London School of Economics and the Chartered Financial Analyst designation. He is also a research associate of the LSE’s Centre for Philosophy of Natural and Social Science and writes a fortnightly column in Business Day.

Tanya van Lill
Tanya joined SAVCA in March 2017, after a rewarding 10-year career at the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) with her last role being Director of Academic Programmes where she also served on the board of the Executive MBA Council (EMBAC), an international academic association that represents the Executive MBA industry.
Tanya is passionate about human and organisational development. During her time as a learning and development specialist focusing on management and leadership development, Tanya gained valuable experience working with various companies across a wide range of sectors. She holds an MBA and Post-Graduate Diploma from GIBS where her MBA research focused on methods to develop a global mindset. Tanya also holds a BCom Informatics and Honours in Business Management from UNISA.

Terry Wyer
Mr. Wyer is a senior international development investment professional with a focus on facilitating finance and investment into local communities for development outcomes. With over 25 years’ experience, he has focused globally on public and private sector engagement and development initiatives to catalyze the potential of the private sector as a driver of sustainable and inclusive economic growth. His experience includes fund and investment vehicle development, capital raising, and investment facilitation. Mr. Wyer is well versed in working with US and international donors and financial sector participants including the World Bank, IFC, EBRD, AfDB, the EU, ADB and other DFI’s and regional development banks aid delivery through private sector engagement.
Mr. Wyer is also a regular speaker and international lecturer and is currently a Senior Associate at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington DC (non-resident) and is a regular speaker on the international development and investment circuit.

Titi Sekhukhune
Titi joined Ethos as an Associate in August 2012. Since joining, she has been involved in Fund VI’s acquisition of Autozone and Eazi and was part of the teams that successfully exited TiAuto and Plumblink.
More recently, she has been a founding team member of the Ethos Mid Market Fund. She currently serves on the boards of Gammatek, Twinsaver and Eazi.
Prior to joining Ethos, Titi worked as a transactor in the Corporate Finance team at Nedbank Capital (a division of Nedbank Limited) for five years. During her tenure there, she was involved in advising boards of companies on a wide array of transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, disposals, capital raisings, and corporate restructurings.
Titi holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) in Accounting from the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal. She is also a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants.

Warren van der Merwe
Warren joined Vantage in 2007 and is currently co-Managing Partner of Vantage Mezzanine. Vantage Mezzanine is a pan African mezzanine fund manager which is seeking to raise its 4th mezzanine fund in 2020. Prior to joining Vantage, Warren spent 6 years at Standard Bank in its Corporate and Investment Bank. He is a qualified Chartered Accountant.

Yemi Laude
Mr. Lalude is the Managing Partner, Africa at TPG Growth and leads investment activities for TPG Growth and the Rise Fund on the continent. Prior to joining TPG Growth, Mr. Lalude was the founder and Managing Partner of Adlevo Capital, a private equity firm focused on technology investments in Africa. Previously, he was a Principal at GGV Capital, a leading Silicon Valley-based venture capital firm focused on investments in the US and China.

Zelda is an Investment Professional at Oppenheimer Partners. She has been involved in the FMCG and healthcare sectors in East and West Africa and continues to focus on various sectors across geographies in line with her background, networks and the team’s mandate. She has significant M&A advisory and equity capital markets experience, covering a broad cross-section of sectors. Zelda also has experience in transactions relating to key sub-Saharan African countries.
Zelda is a qualified Chartered Accountant and a member of SAICA. Post articles at Deloitte, she spent 13 years in investment banking where she was responsible for coverage and deal execution at Standard Bank, JP Morgan and Goldman Sachs.
