Announcement from SAVCA: Emile du Toit Reappointed as Chairman of the SAVCA Board | 10 December 2013
Emile du Toit reappointed as chairman of the board of the South African Venture Capital and Private Equity Association (SAVCA)
The board of the South African Venture Capital and Private Equity Association (SAVCA) is pleased to announce the re-appointment of Emile du Toit as its chairman.
Du Toit is the head of Infrastructure Investments at Harith General Partners, which currently manages the Pan-African Infrastructure Development Fund 1 (PAIDF1). He has served on the SAVCA board since 2009, and as chairman since 2011. “It is an honour to serve the South African private equity community through a platform such as SAVCA, and especially at a time when the local industry is showing renewed sparkle and a strong ambition to raise capital and deploy this into growth-generating assets,” Du Toit says.
SAVCA’s member base, which represents more than 90 fund managers, has had an active year: Successful fund raising by South African-based private equity fund managers has increased the total asset base in the industry by at least 10%, from the nearly R130bn measured in 2012. It is estimated that more than half of the funds raised has come from outside of South Africa.
These achievements are an indication of the faith that institutional investors continue to place in the South African private equity industry, based on its solid and extensive track record.
“SAVCA remains committed to promoting the asset class to local and foreign investors, including development finance institutions, commercial pension funds, government pension funds and family offices. The SAVCA board and executive team are also active in engaging with South African regulators and policy makers regarding regulation and legislation that affect the industry,” Du Toit says. Du Toit is a CFA Charterholder and holds a B.Comm (Acc) Hons degree from the University of Johannesburg.
The South African Venture Capital and Private Equity Association (SAVCA) was established in 1998, with the objective of promoting South African private equity. It carries out this mission by:
• Engaging with regulators and legislators on a range of matters affecting the industry;
• Providing relevant and insightful research on aspects of the industry;
• Offering training to industry stakeholders, including fund managers, investors and regulators
• Creating meaningful networking opportunities for industry players
