Bain & Company's Global Private Equity Report 2016
Bain & Company’s annual Global Private Equity Report, published this week, offers a comprehensive view of the challenges that private equity investors face following a decade of volatility and change, as well as what it will take to succeed in 2016.
Private equity turned in another solid year in 2015, despite the challenges posed by the year’s macroeconomic uncertainty. PE firms faced their best fund-raising conditions since the 2008 global financial downturn, and exits continued to reward PE funds’ sales of the final remnants of their pre-2008 boom-year investments. But with asset prices at all-time highs, growing turmoil in the debt markets and the looming threat of a downturn within current investment holding periods, PE firms will need to demonstrate that they have a differentiated strategy for achieving superior performance.
The report highlights three core elements for building a repeatable model for success: Focus on the firm’s investment sweet spot, identify and invest against broad macro themes, and organise for portfolio value creation.
