In light of our upcoming ESG Masterclass Series, we’re taking a short walk in the shoes of this year’s facilitators to get their take on the importance of ESG and to get a feel for what this year’s delegates can expect from the course.

Click here to read what they had to say.

To allow sufficient time for our facilitators and delegates to immerse themselves in the training content, and to ensure that the programme provides enough opportunities for robust engagements and knowledge sharing, this year’s series will be broken up into multiple modules, taking place at different dates. Thus, each aspect of ESG will be dealt with in different sessions.

The first training session will take place on Thursday, 11 April 2024 (09:30-11:00) and focus on the ‘E: Environmental’. The ‘S: Social’ and ‘G: Governance’ training session dates will be communicated in due course and registration links sent to delegates to secure their training slots.

N.B. 1.5 CPD Points applicable to Environmental module only. Each module will have its own applicable points.

The upcoming ‘E‘ training session will cover the following themes and learning outcomes:

First segment: Climate change – Implications and practical considerations for fund managers (facilitated by IBIF Consulting)

  • Understanding the context and science behind ‘Energy’.
  • Evaluating the drivers, risks and opportunities for fund managers in developing markets.
  • Articulating carbon foot printing and net zero.
  • Understanding climate change, the investment process, and considerations for integration.
  • Exploring different case studies and examples.
  • Understanding carbon tax implications.
  • Learning about the regulations that will be impacting the industry.

Second segment: Unlocking Opportunity and Mitigating Risk (facilitated by KPMG)

  • Understanding the key findings from the KPMG US ESG Due Diligence Survey and how the highlights from this survey could find application to the South African private equity market.
  • Embedding climate considerations into the deal cycle: How to ensure proportional, targeted and value-driven insights, tailored to the type of deal.
  • Understanding how tax could be used to offset the cost of embedding environmental targets into the business.

Look out for our next mailer in which we will introduce our facilitators and take the time to get to know them better.
