INVITATION: Climate Finance Accelerator South Africa In-country Event

The Climate Finance Accelerator South Africa (CFA SA) was launched in June 2021 to improve the flow of finance to low carbon projects in South Africa.  The CFA is a global technical assistance programme funded by UK International Climate Finance to support countries’ efforts in implementing their Nationally Determined Contributions under the Paris Climate Agreement. The programme supports climate project proponents to improve the bankability and appeal to financiers of their projects. National Business Initiative (NBI) and GreenCape are the CFA delivery partners for South Africa.

The CFA SA launched a very successful request a Call for Proposals to identify approximately 10 high quality climate mitigation projects, to strengthen their technical and commercial propositions, and connect them with suitable investors. We received well over 100 submissions and now providing technical assistance to the cohort of project proponents comprising coaching and best practice insights from technical, financial, and gender equality and social Inclusion (GESI) experts.

The NBI, GreenCape, the British High Commission Pretoria, the Department for Business Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) and the CFA team are pleased to invite you to the CFA South Africa Virtual In-country event. The event will bring together the CFA SA cohort of project proponents, financiers and policymakers, with the aim of increasing access to climate finance by building a common understanding of the opportunities and barriers in unlocking finance for low carbon projects.

The objectives of the CFA-SA In-country event are threefold:

  1. Connect project proponents with capital market players, giving them an opportunity to present their project and to explore financing possibilities
  2. Mobilise the skills of current financial market practitioners, who have the best understanding of the ‘real-life’ issues and constraints that affect financing opportunities
  3. Enable policymakers to better understand the enabling environment constraints affecting the flow of climate finance, and reflect on ways to address them

The CFA-SA In-country event format consists of three parts:
