SA SME Fund
The SA SME Fund was launched as a private sector financed initiative to stimulate economic growth by supporting SMEs. The Fund's shareholders are the largest corporates in South Africa, who collectively invested R1.4 billion into Fund 1, with the intent on allocating capital to reputable venture capital or growth-oriented debt funders and equity fund managers that invest directly in scalable businesses and start-ups that demonstrate potential to grow, create jobs and provide solutions to the country’s problems.
The SA SME Fund launched Fund 2 in 2022, a R300 million Debt Fund that provided capital to a group of SME Debt providers who in turn lent to Gauteng-based SMEs. The fund was raised in partnership with the Industrial Development Corporation, and the Gauteng Government.
In 2023 the SA SME Fund launched the R700m Venture Capital Fund of Funds (VCFoF), focused on deepening and widening the South African Venture Capital market, by providing more capital to VC Fund Managers and is targeting a final close of ~ R1.3 billion.

USAID Mobilizing Investment
USAID Southern Africa Mobilizing Investment (USAID Mobilizing Investment) is a five-year project addressing a spectrum of funding gaps in Southern Africa’s investment ecosystem, with the aim of catalyzing private capital into sectors that can increase employment, decrease poverty, and reduce inequality within the Southern African region.
USAID Mobilizing Investment uses a combination of technical assistance and catalytic grant funding to mobilize private sector investment into high-growth sectors, and to strengthen the skills, relationships, and information flows necessary to change market behavior with the goal of creating a more dynamic and sustainable investment ecosystem. The project partners with industry stakeholders and institutions to develop, package, and deliver capacity-development programs with an emphasis on first-time fund managers specifically targeted at women and historically disadvantaged fund managers to improve their standards of performance, making them more successful at raising and deploying capital, managing portfolios, and creating wealth.
