SA SME Fund
The SA SME Fund is a private sector financed initiative to stimulate economic growth by supporting SMEs. The Fund's shareholders are the largest corporates in South Africa, who have collectively invested R1.4 billion into the Fund. We allocate capital to reputable venture capital or growth-oriented debt funders and equity fund managers that invest directly in scalable small businesses and start-ups that demonstrate potential to grow, create jobs and provide solutions to the country’s problems.
The SA SME Fund has raised a new R300 million Debt Fund that will provide capital to a group of SME Debt providers who will in turn lend to Gauteng-based SMEs. The Debt Fund investors are the SA SME Fund, the Industrial Development Corporation, and the Gauteng Government.
The SA SME fund is currently raising a new Venture Capital Fund of Funds (VCFoF), which is aimed at deepening and widening the South African Venture Capital market, by providing more capital to VC Fund Managers. The VCFoF has been structured to include a layer of First Loss capital intended to attract private investors into the Fund by providing them with downside protection. The VCFoF will reach its first close in quarter 1 of 2023.
