
Peter Baired Managing Principal, Africa Private Equity
Peter is the managing principal for Investec Asset Management’s Africa private equity funds. He has overall responsibility for investing in, monitoring, adding value to, and exiting portfolio companies across Africa.
From 2011 to 2016, Peter led the African private equity business for Standard Chartered Bank, building a portfolio of approximately US$900 million and 11 portfolio companies. Prior to that, he was President of DJO, Inc., a US$3 billion market capitalisation global medical-devices company owned by Blackstone. Peter was at McKinsey & Company in South Africa and the US for 11 years, becoming a partner in the healthcare and private-equity practices. Early in his career, Peter was a principal in the private equity group at Brait in Johannesburg.
Peter holds a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Cape Town and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Stanford University, where he was an Arjay Miller Scholar. Peter is also a CFA Charterholder.
